WVU Students – On 和 Off Campus – to Benefit from Gifts from 弗吉尼亚农业信贷

西弗吉尼亚大学 扩展 和 Davis College of Agriculture, Natural 资源 和 Design are preparing students – on campus 和 around the state – for future success. Gifts from 弗吉尼亚农业信贷 will exp和 financial literacy in West Virginia, while enhancing undergraduate research opportunities 和 innovation in agriculture.

67美元的,500 gift to WVU 扩展 will create the 弗吉尼亚农业信贷 Financial Literacy Fund. These funds will be used to support WVU 扩展’s financial literacy outreach 和 education to youths 和 adults throughout the state. 

The WVU 扩展 Financial Literacy team includes faculty from 农业与自然资源家庭及社区发展 和 4-H青年发展. The team’s goal is to create statewide programming 和 curriculum that addresses finances at every life stage, from basic money skills for kids to end-of-life planning for adults. 教师与学校的合作, 社区领袖, senior centers 和 other groups to provide outreach 和 education in our West Virginia communities.

The team has been instrumental in providing resources for students 和 families who are planning for post-secondary education, including offering free courses in completing the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA). In 2021-22, nearly 300 high school students participated in “Paying for Post-Secondary School” education module. 弗吉尼亚农业信贷 Financial Literacy Fund will support these types of programs. 

“Giving West Virginians the tools 和 resources they need to be financially sound is critical. We are grateful to the team at the 弗吉尼亚农业信贷 for recognizing 和 supporting our work to help West Virginians learn more about all aspects of finances – from credit cards 和 loans to savings 和 debt,” 魏泽福劳伦, WVU Associate Profession 和 扩展 Agent – Fayette 和 Nicholas Counties, 金融知识小组成员, 说. “This program provides resources 和 education to help our citizens manage financial resources 和 improve financial decision making. 这反过来又改善了他们的幸福感. 弗吉尼亚农业信贷 gifted the Davis College $67,500 to establish the 弗吉尼亚农业信贷 Student Farm Research & 创业基金. These funds will be used to provide opportunities for student innovation in areas such as sustainable farming, 农业技术, 都市农业, 减少食物浪费, 植物遗传学, 农业教育与政策.

The financial support will aid research 和 development at the College’s 研究、教育和外展中心 和温室. Not only will the gift provide funding, but it creates greater access to education. With technology 和 materials as well as travel costs covered, students will have more opportunities to participate in entrepreneurial activities, including business plan competitions 和 impact challenges. This gift provides opportunities for experiences outside the classroom to be more equitable, allowing students to pursue their goals regardless of their economic background. It furthers all students’ possibilities of building their professional skillset 和 gaining employment after graduation.
